There are over one hundred Echoes to obain in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, many of which are gained from defeating various monsters. One enemy in particular is as powerful as it is hard to find: The Lynel. This monster is incredibly tough, and can turn even the most challenging encounters into a cakewalk with the Lynel Echo on your side -- if you can afford its summon cost. This page contains information on where to find the Lynel in the Eternal Woods.
Where to Find the Lynel
Though it is one of the toughest enemies you'll face in Echoes of Wisdom, you can actually find the Lynel as soon as you are able to explore Hyrule at large after beating the Suthorn Ruins Dungeon and starting the Searching for Everyone Main Quest. Whether you'll be able to defeat and then summon the Lynel is, of course, a very different story.

To find the Lynel's stomping grounds, travel north of Hyrule Castle and to the west of the Northern Sanctuary, where you can find an entry path into the Eternal Forest (aka the Lost Woods).
Your goal here is to look for horse-like hoof prints in the mud. Each hoof path serves as a directional arrow telling you where to go next.
The Eternal Forest is a maze-like area where your map will soon be of little help, as the further in you venture, the less likely you'll be able to make any headway until much later in the game's main story. You can also find a path up to the northeast leading to an empty clearing, but to find the monster that lives here, you'll need to do a bit of sleuthing.
From the entrance to the Eternal Woods and its Waypoint, head west until the fog sets in, and the path on the minimap ends. You should see hoof prints in the mud pointing north! From here, travel north along the muddy ground, and ignore the side path through the grass off to the right.
What you're looking for is just to the left of the side path as the main path curves left: A small set of hoof prints in the mood, leading west. You'll need to find each set of hoof prints and follow them closely to trigger the Lynel's appearance, so keep your eyes peeled.
From the first set of hoof prints, head straight west to find another set leading further west, and cut between a column of trees.
This will lead past another mud patch, and then you'll find the next set of hoof prints leading south.

Follow the tracks south and past a tree stump until you reach a Level 2 Sword Moblin, and to the right of him you should find a new set of tracks leading southeast at an angle.
Keep heading in this direction past a small clearing to find a row of two trees, and a mud patch just past them where the tracks lead northeast.
Just a short distance away through a grassy field, you can find the next set leading due east below a Caromadillo and between two tree stumps.
This will lead you all the way back to the forest entrance where the minmap's trail stops, only now hoofprints have appeared leading north, and one last set leading northeast into that side path to the right we ignored the first time around.
Finally, as you enter the large clearing through the side path, the Lynel will be waiting for you.
How to Defeat the Lynel
Make no mistake, the Lynel is an absolute bruiser of a foe that can deal incredible damage, and if you try to fight him early in the main story, he can often take you out in a few hits from dealing around 4-5 hearts of damage in a single blow. He can perform a charging swipe that's very hard to dodge once he's locked on, and even when attacking an opponent at close range, his spin attacks have an incredible range for his sweeping strike.

For this reason, you'll want to keep the Lynel occupied with other Echoes as much as possible, as his charge attacks are very hard to avoid if you're the only target he's looking at.
The good news is with a bit of patience and luck, even the Level 2 Sword Moblin you passed on the way here can take him out, though you'll need to resummon many times. Even though a single hit from the Lynel can take out many Echoes immediately, you can keep planting an upgraded Sword Moblin or Club Boarblin down to deliver a single hit to the Lynel before getting creamed -- and more importantly diverting its attention.
Keep strafing the Lynel to put distance between you, and summon a new Echo the instant he defeats one, then strafe away to avoid the large cleave from his attacks. You can also summon a Wizzrobe for extra damage, but only if you give them enough space to fire off their projectile before he charges in.
If you want to take him out faster, you'll likely need heavier hitters like a Level 3 Sword Moblin that you can find above a Moblin Camp in the Hebra Mountain, or the Roboblin Automaton if you give the Lynel something else to focus on while you wind him up.
Once defeated, you'll be able to learn the Lynel Echo, but summoning him to aid you won't be as easy as defeating him...
How to Summon the Lynel
The Lynel Echo will require a whopping 6 points of Tri's power to summon, which is much more than your maximum amount of points for the most of the game. Tri will need to reach Level 9 to be able to gain 6 points, which will likely require you to complete 7 Dungeons, though you may be able to get it a bit sooner if you complete all the optional rifts that appear in the world, and complete certain Side Quests like From the Heart in Hyrule Castle Town, and Stamp Stand Swallowed! on top of Hebra Mountain.
The reason he's priced so high should be obvious: Having the Lynel on your side will quickly slice through practically any enemy with ease, and you can use him to tear through the Slumber Dojo's challenges quickly if you're having trouble with them. His attacks hit extremely hard and slice through a wide area, making him the perfect offensive companion in almost any encounter!
